1997 – ARDENA

  • Share

In the summer of 1969 Andrea’s family leave Milan to go on holiday in a small village called Ardena on the hills near a big lake. In the large house, other than Andrea’s parents there are also his uncles and aunts, some cousins, his grandfather who refuses to grow old and his grandmother who is going through a particular phase of her life reflecting on her past: she writes poetry, she talks to the trees and, hidden from view, she talks with the ghost of her first love who died young in war. Andrea, thirteen years old, spends some of his day with his peers with whom he makes his first discoveries as an adolescent. The rest of the time he takes part in the problems of the “grown-ups” ; his mother has a lover; his father gives him lessons in behaviour; his grandmother behaves strangely and his grandfather tries to seduce the maid. In the meantime the television transmits the landing of the first man on the moon. Then summer comes to an end and they have to go back home. But Andrea is no longer the same.
