Antisocial. Maniacal. Clearly mysoginous. Nonetheless, FBI had to recognize his supreme detective talent. He’s Nero Wolfe. 1959: the best American detective comes to Rome with Archie Goodwin, his assistant, and two goals: to find a cook who matches up his taste; to set up a large greenhouse for the orchids he collects. Such hobbies require dedication…and a lot of money.

Pressed by the pragmatic Goodwin, who drums up clients, Wolfe investigates on some murders in town – a young girl poisoned, a professor assassinated, a rich philanthropist ran over…- while never leaving his home! Goodwin – thanks to his “American” appeal and gift of gab – is the one who visits the scenes of crime, interrogates the suspects and gains the information. That is the way Wolfe, through an incredible intuition, unveils the identity of the guilty.

The premise is a look at the past: this series refers to Rex Stout crime stories, but also wants to create a link to the RAI TV series (on air in the Sixties) starring the unforgettable Tino Buazzelli. Moreover, it aims to represent – with some “retro” nostalgia – the years of the Italian economical boom: colourful and ingenuous characters, the birth of TV, the development of national industries, creativity in design, fashion, advertising, the first migrants from South and the birth of peripheries, the explosion of light music.

The role of the famous detective has been assigned (with no awe) to Francesco Pannofino, while the assistant (Archie Goodwin) is Pietro Sermonti. That is, the comic duo of “Boris” again on air – but now they are the sole leading actors of the series. The permanent cast includes Andy Luotto (as the genius cook Nanni Laghi) and Giulia Bevilacqua (as the news-hawk Rosa Petrini). In each episode, several guest stars will enrich such exceptional cast.
